Public Information About Mold

What is MOLD?
MOLD is a microscopic organism that enters your house or building through open windows, ventilation systems, and on shoes.  Once inside, MOLD spores (seeds) hibernate until they find a water and food source, such as damp wood, carpeting or shower grout.

Where Does MOLD Grow?
MOLD can be found almost anywhere; it can grow on virtually any surface
when moisture is present. MOLD spores waft through the indoor and outdoor air contin-ually.  When spores land on damp spots indoors, they begin growing in or-
der to survive.

There are MOLDS which grow on wood, carpet, food and even dynamite. When excessive moisture or water accumulates indoors, MOLD growth will occur,
particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed.  MOLD growth may be a major problem after flooding, or in very humid climates.  Excessive moisture in the home is a cause for serious concern about indoor air quality primarily because it provides excellent breeding conditions for the MOLD.

Are some molds more hazardous?
While a legitimate health concern, cases of toxic MOLD--a specific type that produces  airborne toxins that attack respiratory systems of even healthy people--are not uncommon. But if your MOLD problem is one of those cases with significant levels of toxic mold, you will need to take immediate action to insure that it does not spread to other locations within your home or building. The  teams from SUN STATE SPECIALTY K-9s can help keep your family and employees free from mold hazards.

How am I exposed to molds?
MOLD spores cause health problems when they are inhaled in large numbers. You can also be exposed through eating and skin contact.  MOLD spores can be contracted in your home, work, school or places or recreation. MOLD may be growing on a wide scale in your home if you smell a musty odor or experiencd water damage recently.

How does mold affect my health?
It is not healthy for anyone to be exposed to MOLD inside of buildings. Identification of its source and clean up is necessary to prevent any/or further health problems. The elderly, and the immune compromised are at risk.

If enough spores of nontoxic MOLD are airborne, they can affect the health of people with allergies, low  immune systems, asthma and other respiratory ailments.  All classifications of MOLD could be hazardous to your health if left to grow and multiply unchecked.

According to the U. S. Insurance Information Institute (2002 statistics) GǣMore than 10,000 MOLD related health lawsuits are pending in state courts such as Florida...where climate makes it easier for MOLD to  take hold.Gǥ
